Reflections on the School Year

Students are gone, my packing and cleaning is almost finished. A faculty meeting, with lunch provided by our principal, and some sweet goodbyes will come today.

It’s been a strange year (in Florida) with the introduction to EOC, YEA, FSA, PERT, PARCC, SAT, and all the other countless mandated exams we (the educators in America) have placed upon the future generation. I don’t know about you, but I’m still trying to find the silver lining in all of this.

I do know that I am blessed with some really quality students who love to learn. My summer plans are filled with new ideas to improve my Algebra 2, PreCalculus, and AP Calculus products in my store. I’ve got more ideas than I have time to create. Have you already started thinking about next year?  Do you have colleagues that get you inspired to improve on your craft? I know at our school the math department meeting was already focused on what’s coming next and how will we proactively meet the demands for next fall.

Remember to find a little fun time for yourself in order to revive, reflect, and renew your teacher spirit.  I am attending an AP Summer Institute and the T-P-T Conference in July. But, then my husband and I always manage to find a week to get away from all the school duties. We love to relax on Siesta Key, Florida,  and remember our honeymoon there.

I hope your reflections about the 2014-2015 school year have more positives than negatives. Be strong, grow, and relax. Our “new kids” will arrive in a blink of the eye.
